Coln Valley Litter Pick March 16th 2024

We were so lucky with the weather on Saturday morning. If it had been raining, there would probably have been a very different turnout. A big thank you to all who helped.

Nearly all the roads in the Parish of Coln St Dennis and Winson were picked. The amount of rubbish collected was about the same as last year – 17 bags and sundries.

We had another very good turnout with several new volunteers and it didn’t rain!

As in previous years every road in both Parishes was picked apart from the Fosse Way.

The trend in the amount of rubbish collected has been generally downward over the past few

years but unfortunately today’s haul was unchanged from 2022 with 15 bags and sundries.

What a magnificent day it was in every way. Wonderful weather and a great sense of community. Despite there being no pick since 2019 there were fewer bags than in previous years - 16 in total of which many were half-filled.

Let’s hope that the culture of throwing rubbish onto the verges is changing and our beautiful area remains unspoiled throughout most of the year.

The March 2020 and 2021 Valley Litter Picks were cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

For the second year running the March 2019 Valley Litter Pick resulted in the Valley earning a Runner’s Up prize of £300 from Cotswold District Council’s 2019 Great Cotswolds Clean-up Competition, sponsored by Coop Midcounties.

This year the judges praised the fact that "volunteer numbers continue to grow and the organisation of their event was a model of good practice".
